Marking one year since Hurricane Fiona, we are extremely proud to have partnered with three exceptional East Coast artists who have created compelling works from trees that fell during the storm. These works are now open for bids in support of United Way Halifax and their ongoing hurricane relief efforts. While the auction aims to raise significant funds, every donation—no matter the size—will have a profound impact on the lives of those who need it most.

THESE ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES HAVE BEEN CREATED BY LOCAL ARTISTS TO HELP NOVA SCOTIA REBUILD.

“SOLACE” BY JONATHAN OTTER

Handmade Organic Modern Furniture
32” x 28” x 34”

This distinctive design, meticulously crafted using wood sourced from the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona, embodies the storm's raw energy. It has been sculpted to reveal the unique colour and grain patterns of the wood and provide the sitter with an extraordinary tactile experience. The design of the arms draws inspiration from crashing ocean waves, while the deep armrests and seat embrace the sitter, offering a sense of security. Both the hand-stitched leather seat and back have been pressed against the chair frame, evoking the appearance of sheet metal pressed by high winds. Robin Egg Blue was chosen for the leather due to the symbology of the robin, which in many cultures represents new beginnings, growth and rebirth.

“REBIRTH” BY ADAM MCNAMARA

Hand-carved Wood Sculpture
33" x 18" x 11”

This intricate hand-carved wood sculpture elegantly captures the essence of growth and rebirth, intertwining the vitality of nature with the resilience of community. Its fluid lines depict harmonious coexistence, forming a symbol of shared flourishing and renewal. It encapsulates the enduring spirit of both nature and community, reminding us that even in loss, there's a seed of hope for a stronger, united future.

“UPROOTED” BY KALEN ROBLEE

Tree Ring Relief Print, Ink & Watercolour on Cotton Paper
22" x 28"

This canvas reveals its narrative with a mesmerizing tree ring relief technique. A chorus of whirling winds, masterfully captured, draws the viewer into the eye of the hurricane. Twisted roots and crashing waves beyond the storm's edge depict its ferocity. The intricate interplay of elements invites contemplation—a vivid reminder of nature's power and life's fragile resilience.
