“SOLACE” BY JONATHAN OTTER

Handmade Organic Modern Furniture
32” x 28” x 34”

This distinctive design, meticulously crafted using wood sourced from the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona, embodies the storm's raw energy. It has been sculpted to reveal the unique colour and grain patterns of the wood and provide the sitter with an extraordinary tactile experience. The design of the arms draws inspiration from crashing ocean waves, while the deep armrests and seat embrace the sitter, offering a sense of security. Both the hand-stitched leather seat and back have been pressed against the chair frame, evoking the appearance of sheet metal pressed by high winds. Robin Egg Blue was chosen for the leather due to the symbology of the robin, which in many cultures represents new beginnings, growth and rebirth.

ABOUT THE WOOD:

The Red Oak sourced for this piece comes from an area on the North Shore of Nova Scotia devastated by Hurricane Fiona. Red Oak heartwood is renowned for its timeless elegance. It elevates furniture with its rich, warm hues and unique grain patterns that only grow more exquisite with age. In a commitment to transparency and traceability, and with the kind permission of the landowner, we have recorded the GPS coordinates on the back of the finished piece. This ensures that you're not just investing in a piece of furniture, but in a storied artifact that embodies both aesthetic beauty and environmental consciousness.
